Garbage and Recycling Services 

The City of Bunker Hill Village contracts with Republic Waste for garbage and recycling services.  Contact the City at 713-467-9762 if you have questions or comments on this service. 

When

The city is divided into two pickup schedules:

·         Homes located on Bunker Hill Road, homes EAST of Bunker Hill Road and cross streets on Bunker Hill Road are picked up on TUESDAY AND FRIDAY.

·         All other homes are scheduled for MONDAY AND THURSDAY.

·         Wednesday is recycling day for both schedules. 

Pick up begins at 7:00 a.m.; all trash and recyclables should be out by this time to ensure pickup.  There is no pickup on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day. 

Where and What

·         Back Door Pickup

o       Back Door Pickup refers to a pickup location visible from the street and not inside a garage, carport, building or behind a gate.

o       You may use any container for household waste, including the Bunker Hill paper bags.

o       Yard trash in plastic bags will picked up on the same day as your household waste.  A limit of 6 bags will be picked up on any single pickup day.

o       Recyclables will be picked up on Wednesday in plastic bins furnished by Republic Waste.  The bins are available at City Hall.  Additional bins are available for $10.00 each.

o       Please do not place items you wish to keep near or against your trash containers.  The service men will assume that any item near the containers is to be picked up.

·         Curbside Pickup

o       Tree limbs (Picked up on same days as household waste) no larger than 3” in diameter and cut in lengths less than 5’ should be bundled into 18” diameter bundles.  The total weight of the bundle should not exceed 40 lbs.

o       Heavy trash is picked up on the second day of your weekly schedule.  Heavy trash includes items such as water heaters, furniture and other items which do not contain hazardous or controlled chemicals.  Appliances which use refrigerants should have the refrigerant reclaimed and the appliance properly tagged by a licensed technician.

o       Construction materials are not considered household waste and will not be picked up. 

Recycling

·         Bin must be visible from the street by 7:00 am on Wednesday

·         Acceptable Items:

o       Grade 1 and 2 plastics (items with visible grade stamp)

o       Aluminum, steel or bi-metal cans (clean)

o       Newsprint (placed in recycle bin or bundled)

o       Plastic Soda or Milk containers (rinsed without caps)

·         Unacceptable Items:

o       Glass

o       Telephone Books

o       Polyfoam cups, plates, packing material

o       Cardboard

o       Hazardous wastes and chemicals 

Bunker Hill Bags

·         Sturdy paper bags are available for purchase from the City in bundles of 50 for $25.00 per bundle.  You may pay in person at City Hall, drop your payment in our payment box or mail your payment to the City.  The bags will be delivered to your home on the following Thursday afternoon after payment is received.
